Tight Budget Whittle Away School Days by Sam Dillon

The main idea: a debate on whether cutting down school days is the why to go (even with financial crises), while some school try keep the same amount of days or even add on more.

Any student would love the idea to spend less time Im school, but the crises on cutting down hours is critical. Tighter budgets equal no summer school as well as programs that are provided to help students out, and of course shorter school yrs.

What I don't understand is why the government goes after the school system? When America seems to need education the most, since we are stereotyped almost all around the world as an uneducated country. Why doesn't the government go after the places where the money truly is?

But the article goes on: It says that some schools were given extra time to added to their schools days. While some schools didn't use it to better academics some did. Some schools aren't even fortunate enough to get this extra time from their government. So they take it upon themselves to provide extra time for students. For example in the article it said, "65 teachers and principles plan to work without pay...to keep alive a summer school program that would have otherwise been canceled (Dillon, Tight Budget)."

Thing is while some schools are cutting back on school days this may not be a great idea, because adding more days is the better pay off. At the end of the article a young lady named Rubi Morales says, "she resented returning to her neighborhood...to find her friends rough housing...now I see all those study hours paid off (Dillon, Tight Budget)."So, why is the government choosing to cutting down the time spent in school?
