While reading over articles on the New York Times website, I found one that caught my eye. Having always been interested in what in our brains makes us who we are/more capable at doing certain things than others, I was eager to read about how the brain of an addict and a leader are similar. At first, when this idea was suggested, I couldn't for myself find much similarity between the two. However, as you read through the article, more and more is revealed to you at a pace thats slow enough to absorb and really feel like you're understanding the information, but quick enough that it keeps your focus. The reader learns a little bit about how the brain handles addiction how an addiction to a substance works in the same way as, (even though its a bit cheesy,) the addiction to success.
"The risk-taking, novelty-seeking and obsessive personality traits often found in addicts can be harnessed to make them very effective in the workplace. For many leaders, it’s not the case that they succeed in spite of their addiction; rather, the same brain wiring and chemistry that make them addicts also confer on them behavioral traits that serve them well."
This quote, (found towards the end of the article,) shows not only the similarity between the two but also that since they're so similar, they can and often happen together.
