The picture shows men acting and having what looks like a good time. they appear to be into what their doing and if you look beyond the hardened demeanor and tough eyes and also the uniform this actually looks like a show. I'm sure most can agree that prisons detain more so than they rehabilitate. so by providing the inmates with a small ounce of hope, a small means of expression; an escape from frustration, isolation, and loneliness, the prison then attempts to show the inmates that there is another way to go. so why would you take this program away?

Due to lack of funds, many are beginning to "fade away." "Casualties of the budget crises that have overwhelmed state and local governments nationwide. nowhere is truer than here where prisons are so overcrowded that the Supreme court in May ordered the state to start releasing inmates." so now the what may be one opportunity that many Could've had will be lost. this article me take a new perspective on prisons, at least momentarily. they could actually be used as a means for people to get the help they need. Not to say commit a crime and go to prison and get help or to make prison seem like a place you would want to go but used properly it could cause change.

this article also made me think about the inmates that filled the prisons when Hurricane e Katrina happened. Where were they placed? are all their records gone? Are their chances of getting out and staying out larger or more limited? I was also reminded that just because you are placed in an environment doesnt mean you have to totally conform to it. Yes, you can adapt to it to survive but, though it may be hard, you can keep the essence of you.
