I honestly have no clue what the audience was that McCarthy was writing to. He was writing from a survivor's stand point but to whom I still not to sure about that. I like to think that he was writing along side the father and son. Writing in a journal for someone to someday find and to read about their dark world and dangerous living.

Question 5
McCarthy's writing is so dark and The Road is such a dark book that the two just go hand in hand. McCarthy was writing about a dark world from a dark point of view doing this from a loud and colorful standpoint would contradict the entire story. McCarthy had to write the story as if he was right next to that father and son. Taking the same steps they took fearing the same things they fear. He had to write as though if he wrote any louder the father and son would be found and killed.

Since I finish reading the book I definitely agree with about the way the author wrote the book. It was as if the author was a third person with them like you said he was right there and he wrote about what he saw. If the style was different like a more colorful or cheerful way then it wouldnt go with the story at all. I guess McCarthys knew what he was doing and I would love to read more of his books
I agree with your response to this question. I also liked what you said about if the author "wrote any louder the father and son would be found and killed." I had a similar interpretation to this. I thought that this sparse language made it seem like they were holding on to every precious breath. I also found you point about McCarthy's journalistic style of writing interesting. I was also, at first, thrown off by this style, especially the 3rd person narrative. This change in narration style between The Road and On The Road was another stark difference between these two novels.
