A Norwegian man, Anders Behring Breivik, opened fire at a summer camp of children who are described as being 'current and future political elite.' As if the the shooting wasn't a shock in itself to Norway, who's biggest act of violence dates back to World War II, Breivik also exploded a car bomb outside of a government building in an attempt to throw off authorities. After the explosion, Breivik boarded a ferry to Utoya Island where the shooting took place. Opening fire on children as young as 16.
Not only is it a tragedy that a man would so heartlessly slaughter innocent children, but what attracted me the article was the ruthless motive of the Norwegian man. Anders feels that Muslims may be posing a threat to Norwegians. It disgusts me that although there seems to be great strides and revolutions being made, a sick minded individual with what seems to be too much internet access is able to openly murder people to get his story viewed all over the world. He was a part of a right-wing Progress Party that was openly against immigration and multiculturalism involving Muslims, and as years passed and the party seemed to be coming to terms with the idea, an idea in which Breivik would have no part in.
I have never been one to condone hate crimes, or violence especially when a motive even relatively uses the church as a way to defend themselves. Breivik is claimed to be asking for a 'Christian war to defend Europe against the threat of Muslim domination' but the question I can't seem to surpass is, at what cost?
