McCarthy's novel is a stark contrast to Kerouac's in terms of language. While Kerouac is lyrical, loud, and colorful, McCarthy's style is dark and sparse. How does McCarthy's style lend to the story itself? Cite text for support. Who is the audience?

I definetly agree that the two authors used very different writin styles to create a message in both novels. For Kerouac the loud, dirty language he used gave the book a sense of love and reality which i really enjoyed. Without it, i felt the book wouldnt have had as much meaning and sense that it did. For instance the way he seemed to use words such as whore to describe women. '''I saw what a whore she was." In this way we are able to see what kind of women he encountered during his trip and what he thought of most of them. I felt the audience intended to read the book was nobody, just for himself. The honest ways he wrote, to me, seemed it was as if he was writng a diary and didnt really care who read it, that wasnt important to him. As for McCarthy, on the other hand, i felt the dull, unexciting language he used simply described his journey and what he was going through. He doesnt waste dialouge and words when explaining their travels. The way he wrote, descibed the way he felt. Since he only really seemed to go into detail when explaining unfortunate or terrorous circumstances, it's obvious those were the only exciting moments they witnessed. "He swabbed the wound with disinfectant and opened a plastic envelope with hios teeth and took out a small hooked suture needle and a coil of silk thread and sat holding the silk to the light while he threaded it through the needle's eye. He took a slmap from the kit and caught the needle in the jaws and locked them and set about suturing the wound." Here the father has a disturbing wound which he begins to thread to fix. I believe McCarthy is very descprtive here simply because it was a moment where there was thrill and excitement. As far as the audience im not really sure. Maybe he audience was other travelers who may have been in the same situation sense it was written in third person as if someone were watching. McCarthy was very clever in that way.
