On the Road (Question 6, Post 2)

6. What other remarks might you have about the books? Questions? Observations? Reactions?

I found it interesting that Sal was not as good friends with Dean at the beginning than he was later on in the book. It was funny that Sal talked about Dean like he was a great friend even though he wasn't and then later on became best friends with him. I also noticed that Sal seemed almost like he wished he did some of the things Dean does like picking up girls. Sal fails at this quite a few times in the book and Dean seems like he is never refused by girls. Dean also is with quite a few girls that he has children with and then Sal meets a girl who already has a child and tries to play as a father figure, similar to Dean. Sal also tries to have an affair with Dean's girlfriend but when Dean asks him to have sex with her in front of Dean he can't do it. Possibly because he feels that Dean new he wanted the girl. There are alot of signs pointing to Sal trying to be like Dean for example the only reason Sal wants to travel is because Dean was the first to go to Denver. And then California. I think that Dean is kind of a self-destructive person and was defenitly bringing Sal down. His multiple girlfriends were defenitly a risk and stress maker and taking drugs and going out lake to concerts defenitly wasn't the smartest way to live. Especially after Sal and Dean became best friends they were not living their lives smart. Constantly speeding on the road, which led to flipping the car and getting a speeding ticket. Dean is defenitly a self-destructive person and kind of turned Sal into one too.
