7. If every book is an author's attempt to answer one of life's questions, what question is McCarthy and/or Kerouac attempting to answer? Explain.

This whole book and the journey the father and the son have throughout the book always comes back to one thing: Hope. So I think one of life's questions that McCarthy is trying to answer is, “Is it possible to not loose hope, and if so is it stable enough to carry us through all the challenges we go through?” I think McCarthy's answer to answer to this is yes. I think so because he wrote about a man and his son that had every reason to loose hope. From the beginning of the book when at one point they could not find any life or any food they could have just given up but they didn’t. Throughout there journey the father and his son had nothing. They had no certainty that they would find any life on the coast they had nothing to stand on but there hope. And it brought them through there journey, it even brought the father to his death. It shows that McCarthy is most likely trying to say its possible not to lose hope and its possible to stand on hope alone.
