On The Road (Question 7)

I believe the question that Kerouac is trying to answer is, How fun can life be? Sal makes the long journey acroos the country because he in a sense was becoming boreed with his life back in New York. Sal endured many different situations in doing so. Getting into fights, getting drunk on many occassions, and falling in love were just the start. In the end though, he seems to very much so enjoy his new life. If he never left his old apartment in New York, then he never would have been able to realize that he has much more to live for. He met so many different people who had personalities that he never came in contact with befor. He made many friends and saw that his life had become vibrant. Sal became a happier man and intrigued with life once he made his journey/

Yeah i agree, Sal definatly needed that trip. I think he was feeling not only bored, but pointless, like he didnt have any reason for being there, not doing anything. He had to get up and out, and get something going with his life, or else it woulda spiraled downward.
