Why GOP won't vote for payroll tax

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/69408.html

The Republican party has always looked favorably on any legislation related to "tax cuts" or "less government." However recentley, as the article so clearly states, "Congressional republicans seem focused on two things to the near exclusion of everything else — helping the wealthiest 1 percent and hurting President Barack Obama. Not necessarily in that order." I completely agree with this stance. It seems as if everything Obama has proposed, especially with respect to our economy has been shut down by Republican congressmen. The author, John Podesta, is clearly a democrat and his bias obvious. He even declares himself as such writing: "They [republicans] argue the top 1 percent are the most important drivers of the economy; we [democrats] insist a strong middle class is the engine of economic growth." Despite his bias the author makes some very interesting points, many of which are based largely on statistics and expert opinions. This was a smart choice on the authors behalf because it is very difficult to argue with numbers.
