http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia-pacific/chinese-state-media-say-17-preschoolers-killed-in-bus-accident-in-gansu-province/2011/11/16/gIQATtz6PN_story.html
When I first read this article i couldn't believe what i was reading. How could someone put 62 children in a 9 seat van? The author added to the horror i felt from the accident by describing the way the van looked after it crashed into the coal truck killing 18 kindergarteners and 2 adults and leaving 12 seriously injured and 2 in critical condition. He also quoted Liu Shanying, an expert in public administration at the state-run Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to give some validity to all the author is saying in the article. The author repeats the number of victims in various ways throughout the piece as a way to emphasize the tragic-ness of the whole situation. He even quotes Shanying saying, “The Kindergarten van was carrying seven times as many passengers as it should have been.
Every point that the author brings up about the lacking in school safety in China is backed up with examples and facts. And although the never openly states that he believes the Chinese school safety regulations are lacking he uses quotes from Chinese blogs to express his views.
