Turkish Television Takes on Child Brides

This article describes an upcoming soap opera series in Turkey, the first of its kind, that shows the trials and terrors of child brides. The premise of the show, "Life Goes On", is of 15 year old Hayat, recently wed to a 70 year old man.
The article says it's possible that almost 40% of Turkish women are married before the age of 18.
That this occurs in today's world is more than a little disturbing. Hopefully this show will bring awareness of child brides to a wider audience, because it something that is such a common occurance, a fictionalized version of it can appear on daytime television!
The article aknowledges that reliable statistics related to this are hard to come by, because official statistics don't recognize traditional religious marriages. However, it manages to round up real-life examples by quoting child brides, reflecting on their lost childhoods. It also appeals to the emotion of the reader simply through the subject matter alone. Imagine you, or your little sister, getting married to a middle-aged man!
