Sal's Admiration
I think Sal adores Dean because he's everything he wishes he was. The madness and the vitality, Sal realizes he will never be what Dean is so he chooses to follow and watch him. His childhood visions of cowboys and Heroes of the West are what shape his admiration for Dean. But when Dean lets Sal down, its like a kid finding out Santa aint real. When you have such high expections and admirations for someone your bound to be dissapointed at some point. Sal thought Dean was extra-ordinary, like Superman, but he simply became human when he couldnt live up to Sal's incredible expectations
