9/11 Editorial Analysis

http://www.mlive.com/opinion/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2011/09/are_we_safer_10_years_after_91.html

In this article, the author raises the question on whether our reaction to 9/11 has actually made us safer. In other words, was what we did really beneficial for ourselves and the world?
While the measures taken in security have certainly prevented terrorist attacks on the continental US, they have done almost nothing for those outside our borders. The author then continues to illustrate the benefits of our reaction, revealing their desire to focus on the positive sides of this tragedy. They realize and take into consideration that their audience would likely be focusing on the negative sides of that day, and seek to draw us towards the positives. They build their words to get us to do that, to remember that despite how terrible 9/11 and its aftermath was, good did come of it.
