the role of Time in On The Road

There are alot of different sorts of people in the world. I think when talking about time, you can split it into two extremes. People who value time tremendously, trying not to waste a second of potentially productiveness in their lifetimes, and people who do not value time at all, who will stick to something for years and years, just because they are enjoying it, not caring about their internal clock ticking down. Most people are probably somewhere in between, leaning toward one side or the other, I personally see myself as more of the latter. Each has their ups and downs. But in On the Road, I noticed Sal doesnt seem to value time much, and I think the author added some symbolism to represent this even more. Sal spent years and years traveling across the country, trying to get somewhere, with his life, and just to do things. On the way to Tucson, Sal pawned his watch for gas money. He says its a four dollar watch, but he only sold it for one, it may be a stretch, but i think this symbolizes how he undervalues his time. Also, he sold it for gas money, which is like he's turning in his watch, or his time, for gas for his car, or distance. That's just like him traveling for years across the country in a way right?
