Author choices that were present in, " How the towers fell " are facts and comparing events in history. A quote such as, " The crew never prepared for an emergency. " shows how negligent the crew of the Slocum was. It was a tragedy what happened on the Slocum. Of the 1300 that walked on board on, only 23% left the cruise alive; that only leaves approximately 300 people who could have later died in the hospital from a barrage of injuries and smoke inhalation. Since the crew didn't prepare, I believe they didn't think such a thing would happen. Preparation is a flaw even the airplane security suffered. Before 9/11, airplane security was not as tight as it is now. "
Prior to September 11, 2001 there were a number of areas that needed to be addressed with regards to airline security. One of these areas pertained to those hired by the airlines to act as security screeners. Now, security of cruise ships and airplanes couldn't be more secure. The Slocum should never happen again due to all of the precautions in place. Such as yearly lifeboat checks, life jackets and even the infrastructure of the certain ships with multiple hulls. As for the Airplane security, they check all of your personal belongings with x-ray scanners, several metal detectors, etc. It seems it took a tragedy to actually happen for them to prepare for one, seems that events are more alike than it seems.
